Time-Saving Tech Tips: Chrome

On Start-up

Setting specific sites to open automatically when you start Chrome helps streamline your workflow by ensuring all necessary pages are ready for you.

  • Set Chrome to open a specific set of sites when you open Chrome/turn on your Chromebook. (Settings > On start-up).

QR Codes

Creating QR codes for web pages allows you to easily share links with others by simply scanning the code.

  • Create a QR code for the page by right-clicking on the page and selecting "Create QR code for this page."








Bookmarks

Bookmarks allow you to quickly access your favourite websites with a single click, saving you the hassle of typing in URLs every time.

  • Click the star icon in the address bar to bookmark the current webpage.

  • Right-click empty space on the bookmarks bar to create folders and drag bookmarks (hold & drop) to organise.

  • Right-click bookmark > Edit > delete name (keep favicon).




Chrome Profiles

Using Chrome profiles lets you switch between multiple Google accounts easily, keeping your personal and professional browsing separate and organised.

  • If you use multiple Google accounts, set up Chrome profiles. That way, you can switch between accounts easily and keep your personal and professional browsing separate.



Tabs

Organising your tabs helps you manage multiple tasks efficiently without losing track of important pages.

  • Tab Groups: Right-click on a tab and choose "Add tab to new group." Name your group (e.g., "AP History Articles") and drag other related tabs into the group. You can also colour-code them for even faster visual organisation!

  • Restore Recently Closed Tabs: Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + T to reopen the most recently closed tab.

  • Pin Tabs: Right-click to pin a tab, keeping it handy and preventing accidental closure.



Search in the Omnibox

Using the omnibox for searches saves time by combining the address bar and search box into one powerful tool.

  • Use the omnibox for your searches by typing your query directly into the address bar.



Tag Gemini

Chatting with Gemini directly from the omnibox allows for quick access to AI assistance without leaving your browser.

  • Type @Gemini in the omnibox to chat with Gemini.

Create Links That Go to a Specific Section of Text

Creating links to specific sections of text allows you to direct others to the exact information they need.

  • On a website, highlight the section of text, right-click and choose “Copy link to highlight.” Paste the link where you would like (e.g. Classroom, Assignment, Email).
