Can you describe your career path leading up to your current role at Canopy?
Throughout my career, education has been my central focus, encompassing teaching and leadership positions in both primary and secondary schools. A key aspect of my work in these schools has been leveraging EdTech to improve teaching and learning. This journey began with the challenges of implementing early Virtual Learning Environment software and evolved into ongoing support for colleagues and students in effectively integrating technology into the classroom.
After a period travelling around the world, I went into third sector Programme Management roles, with a focus on social mobility-focused initiatives. I got the opportunity to lead a fascinating randomised control trial project, partnering with the Education Endowment Fund and University of Cambridge, focused on reducing school exclusions.
I joined Canopy around six months ago. I’m delighted to be in a role that ties together a number of my interests, and the opportunity to work with a talented, highly dedicated team.
What do you love most about what you do?

I’m extremely fortunate, in my job, to collaborate with inspiring people who have a shared passion for education. Anyone who meets me will know I enjoy a good chat! I find it interesting to discover people’s journey into education and hear about their plans. Building and maintaining these partnerships is a highlight and is especially rewarding when I see the work we do together having a direct impact on young people benefiting from using technology in the classroom.
What are you most proud of achieving in your career so far?
During my time at Catch22, the project I led was awarded a Project Oracle Award for successfully delivering a programme that put evidence into practice. I’m proud of this because it remains something I seek to promote - working to put in place high-quality, evidence-based initiatives for young people.
During my time at Canopy, I’m also proud of coordinating elements of the 2025 Bett show, where we ran the Google for Education stand. There was such a great buzz at this event!
What's that one thing you do really well that makes you a valuable part of the Canopy team?
Listening! I meet with school/MAT partners most days. I’m often in meetings where people present unique plans, or I’m tasked with coordinating a complex project with lots of different elements. I therefore know how it’s vital to listen carefully and to ask the right questions too. That way, I know we can go away and plan CPD that’s relevant to each school and in line with their strategic priorities.
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a range of different interests. I live in a rural Sussex village where I enjoy country walks and being part of community events - I’m in a book club made up of 20+ village pals, where we occasionally manage to fit in discussing what we’ve read! I live near a lake and the coast - I love to go swimming or paddleboarding. Yoga is a central part of my routine to keep active and balanced. Art interests me, and I experiment with creating digital art, using software like Procreate. Any spare time is also often filled with family fun - I love going on adventures and exploring new places with my husband and two daughters.

If you had to be a type of tree, what would you be and why?
I would be a palm tree…It thrives in hot climates - I’m definitely happiest when warm / in the sun! They can also be used for lots of different things: building shelters, food and medicine. I’m someone who always embraces trying new things and learning new skills, so this felt fitting! I also eat a lot of coconut yoghurt!
